Description

The Atlas Mountains’ winding roadways are not for the faint of heart. So leave the driving to the professionals and take in the scenery as you visit Imouzzer, Ifrane, and Azrou, three historic villages. Beautiful lakes, Barbary apes,  flower-lined lanes, and traditional Berber crafts are all on display. In a Berber cave dwelling, sip tea and chat with residents about their lives, customs, and traditions.

Pickup from your hotel/riad is complimentary in a nice vehicle. Spend a lovely day excursion to Imouzzer, Ifrane, and Azrou in the Middle Atlas. The first visit is Imouzzer, a little community famous for its September Apple Festival. We’ll stop along the way to see “Lake Dait Aoua,” Morocco’s most famous lake, and take shots of the surrounding hills.

Continue on to Ifrane, dubbed “Little Switzerland” , a lovely mountain town constructed in 1930. We’ll stop at Ifrane to see Al Akhawayn University, the famous stone Lion. Then proceed to the various flower-lined lanes and French architecture of this charming town. In Ifrane you can enjoy snow adventures in the winter and a cool environment in the summer.

Lunch at a local eatery. After lunch, go through the cedar forest to the national park, which is home to Barbary apes. Barbary Apes provides a spectacular sight experience where you can feed them and play with them (Barbarian Monkeys).

Then visit Azrou, a Berber village with houses built by Berber tribes, the country’s first inhabitants. We’ll see Berber men with their flocks, grinding flour, and practicing their trades;  Upholstery and carpentry, in particular. We’ll take a stroll around the well-known hidden cooperative. Our  Berber tour is not complete without a visit to a Berber family living in a cave for a cup of tea and to learn more about Berber culture, custom, and life. Finally back to Fez hotel/riad.
